Ulster train accident serves as ‘stark reminder’ of dangers, US Sen. Charles Schumer says


February 26, 2014 | Daily Freeman | KINGSTON >> This week’s train derailment in the town of Ulster stands as an example of how such accidents can happen anywhere, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said on Wednesday.

Schumer, D-N.Y., a vocal proponent of minimizing the risk of catastrophes involving trains that carry crude oil, said during a conference call with reporters that even though the oil tanker cars on the Ulster train were empty, the derailment was “a stark reminder of the possibility of dangers.”

“Thank God the cars were empty,” he said.
