City, BNSF come to terms on rail line


October 28,2014 | La Crosse Tribune| La Crosse officials will meet Thursday evening on a proposed agreement with BNSF Railway that would clear the way for a second line of tracks to be installed on the city’s east side.

The tentative agreement calls for BNSF to pay for relocating utilities at 11 sites, upgrading rail crossings at Main, Cass and Farnam streets and reconfiguring the municipal Forest Hills Golf Course, including moving two holes and adding an underpass beneath the tracks. In addition, BNSF will pay the city $50,000 to close two at-grade crossings on the course.
