CSX to continue to test James River following train derailment

October 29, 2014 | Times Dispatch | CSX will be doing regular testing on the James River for the next year to monitor the effects of the April 30 train derailment and oil spill in Lynchburg, according to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

DEQ issued a notice of violation against CSX shortly after the fiery derailment, which dumped an estimated 30,000 gallons of crude oil into the river.

DEQ’s testing, which ended earlier this year, raised no red flags. CSX will continue to conduct monthly visual checks and quarterly water quality testing around the derailment site, DEQ spokesman Bill Hayden said.
