Understanding safety concerns of shipping Bakken crude oil


December 22, 2014 | Bismark Tribune | The photographs were enough to send chills down the spine of anyone living near or along a railroad track: A fireball of churning flames rolling skyward, thick black smoke bellowing.

The scene earlier in 2014 was close to home – Casselton, N.D. – and resulted when grain cars from one train derailed, colliding with parked railcars carrying Bakken crude oil destined for a refinery.
