Soil Disposal Work Continues At Train Derailment Site


March 1, 2015 | WCHS TV|MOUNT CARBON, W.Va. — Response teams are continuing to restore the environment around a fiery train car derailment in southern West Virginia.
A statement Saturday from multiple agencies responding to the Feb. 16 derailment said excavated soil containing oil from the Mount Carbon site is being disposed at a Charleston facility. The removal is expected to take two weeks.
The statement said about 102,000 gallons of an oil-water mix have been recovered from containment trenches near the Kanawha River and are being sent to a southwestern Pennsylvania recycling facility.
