‘Thank goodness no one was injured or killed,’ Galena Mayor talks derailment six weeks later

April 18th, 2015 | KWQC | GALENA, Ill (KWQC)-“It was serious, thank goodness no one was injured or killed,”

Galena Mayor Terry Renner says the response to the train derailment south of town was incredible, hundreds of first responders flocked to the site.

“It was amazing,” Renner said. “The amount of people that showed up that night was like a swarm of bees down there. It was a good response for everybody coming in.”

Six weeks later, the city has formally requested 227 thousand dollars from BNSF Railway for the derailment.
