In Lac-Mégantic, everyone marks the anniversary in their own way


July 7, 2015 | Monteral Gazette| LAC-MÉGANTIC – Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday — exactly two years after a train carrying crude oil derailed and exploded in Lac-Mégantic — four friends huddled in the dark around a granite monument in front of Ste-Agnès church.

The monument, erected during last year’s anniversary ceremonies, is an open book with the names of the 47 victims engraved on its pages.

The friends had come down from Montreal to pay their respects to those who died, they said, and because they knew Lac-Mégantic before the derailment.
