Blount County bee keepers get ‘all clear’ after Maryville train derailment

July 30, 2015 | WATE| MARYVILLE (WATE) – Blount County bee keepers were given news that was honey to their ears. Their honey is safe to consume.

Coley O’Dell, the owner of Smokey Ridge Apiaries, said the Food and Drug Association found no chemicals after taking samples of both the honey and insects to test for any contamination. He was concerned after toxic chemicals were found in Culton Creek, which is about 100 feet away from four of his hives.
