Albany County wins grant to prepare for oil-train derailment

oct13bOctober 12, 2015 | Times Union| The Capital Region’s hazardous materials squad has won a state grant to prepare for a potentially disastrous oil train derailment.

But while much of debate about oil train safety locally has focused on the Port of Albany, which has swiftly grown to one of the nation’s busiest rail-oil hubs, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said he hopes the emergency drill will focus on the potential for a mishap outside the city.
