CFD: Powder from derailed train not hazardous


January 10, 2015 | COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Columbus fire crews responded to a train derailment on the city’s south side just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The reported derailment happened near the intersection of Parsons Avenue and Dering Ave.

Battalion Chief Tracy Smith said fire crews noticed white powder spilling from the cars, but determined it was not hazardous. Crews believe it is sand.
