Dayton Stresses Statewide Rail Safety in Visit to Recent Train Derailment Site in Callaway


March 26, 2016 | KSTP | On Saturday, Governor Mark Dayton toured the small town of Callaway.

That’s where a train derailment caused an evacuation for nearly 24 hours this week.

A preliminary investigation shows a propane tanker truck pulled out in front of a Canadian Pacific train in Callaway, causing a crash that evacuated the town for almost 24 hours.

Rail safety is one of Dayton’s top priorities, and he says this incident in Callaway is a perfect example as to why more needs to be done to improve safety across the state.

“We really need to have everyone understand that this could happen anywhere in Minnesota,” Dayton said.
