All clear in Ellendale after train derailment, evacuation


November 11, 2016 | MPR News | Authorities Friday afternoon gave the OK for residents in the southern Minnesota town of Ellendale to go home after ordering evacuations following a nearby train derailment and hazardous waste spill.

Several cars in a 146-car Union Pacific train left the rails about 5 a.m. Friday morning. Two were of concern. One car carrying liquid propane has a tear; the other, containing butane, was being evaluated but wasn’t ruptured, Steele County Emergency Management Director Mike Johnson said.
