Kind asks BNSF to outline weather safety plans in wake of Ferryville derailment

November 16, 2017 | La Crosse Tribune | In the wake of the most recent train derailment on the Mississippi River, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind is asking BNSF Railway what steps it has taken to prevent future mishaps during severe weather.

In a letter sent Wednesday, Kind cited the derailment of a BNSF train near Ferryville, Wis., during torrential rains earlier this fall.

“As we’ve seen over the last few years, accidents and derailments are an unfortunate consequence of increased rail traffic in Wisconsin,” Kind wrote.
